Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup brown sugar (for swirl)
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for swirl)
- 2 tbsp butter, melted (for swirl)
- Optional glaze: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1–2 tsp milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add milk and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
- Stir in dry ingredients until just combined—do not overmix.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the swirl.
- Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan and spread evenly. Drizzle half the swirl mixture over the batter. Repeat with remaining batter and swirl mixture. Gently marble with a knife.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If using glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk and vanilla, then drizzle over the cooled loaf.
Notes
- Use buttermilk for extra tenderness and slight tang.
- Do not over-marble the swirl to prevent sinking.
- Double the cinnamon swirl for extra richness if desired.
- To toast slices, lightly butter and place in a skillet or toaster oven until golden.
