Ingredients

Tea Base

  • 2 cups water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Strawberry Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups strawberries, chopped
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan to prepare the tea base.
  2. Steep Tea Bags: Remove the saucepan from heat and add the 8 black tea bags, steeping for 5 minutes to extract the tea flavor.
  3. Remove Tea Bags: Take out the tea bags using tongs, squeezing them gently to release excess tea into the water.
  4. Combine Tea and Water: Transfer the brewed tea into a large pitcher and add 4 cups of additional water along with 1 tsp of baking soda to balance the acidity.
  5. Prepare Strawberry Syrup: In the same saucepan, add the remaining 2 cups of water, chopped strawberries, and granulated sugar. Bring the mixture to a low simmer and cook for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sugar to dissolve completely.
  6. Cool Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the strawberry syrup cool slightly before straining.
  7. Strain Strawberries: Use a fine mesh sieve to strain the cooked strawberries into a small cup or pitcher, pressing to extract as much juice as possible.
  8. Combine Syrup with Tea: Add the strained strawberry syrup to the large pitcher with the tea mixture and stir well to combine all flavors.
  9. Serve: Pour the strawberry sweet tea over ice and serve chilled for a refreshing drink.
