  • Method: Skillet
  • Cuisine: Mediterranean

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Additional lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste (for sauce)
  • 4 pita breads or flatbreads
  • Sliced tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook chicken in a hot skillet over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes per side.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare feta tzatziki sauce by mixing Greek yogurt, crumbled feta, grated cucumber (squeezed dry), dill, mint, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Warm pita breads or flatbreads.
  5. Assemble gyros by layering sliced chicken on pita, drizzling with feta tzatziki, and topping with tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce.
  6. Roll up and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add sliced olives or pepperoncini inside the gyros for extra tang.
  • Grilled chicken adds smoky flavor.
  • Use low-fat yogurt or sour cream for a lighter sauce.
  • Store leftover chicken and sauce separately; reheat chicken gently before assembling.
  • Feta tzatziki tastes better after resting in the fridge for 1–2 hours.
