Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93/7 preferred)
  • 2/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 small yellow onion (grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Hot Honey Sauce

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup sriracha
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatball mixture: In a large bowl, add the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, grated yellow onion, minced garlic, 2 tablespoons sriracha, and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix thoroughly using a wooden spoon or your hands until all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Form meatballs: Using about 3 tablespoons of the mixture, roll the meat into evenly sized balls and set aside.
  3. Heat the pan and cook meatballs: Place a large sauté pan over medium-high heat and add the 2 tablespoons olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the meatballs to the pan. Cook them, turning every few minutes to brown all sides evenly, for about 6 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 140°F and are golden brown.
  4. Reduce heat and prepare sauce: Lower the heat to low. While the meatballs are cooking, whisk together the honey, 1/4 cup sriracha, melted butter, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl.
  5. Add sauce to meatballs: Pour the prepared hot honey sauce over the meatballs in the pan. Increase heat slightly to medium-low and gently stir the meatballs to coat them fully in the sauce.
  6. Simmer to thicken sauce: Let the sauce bubble and thicken for about 3 to 4 minutes while stirring occasionally. Then turn off the heat to prevent burning, making sure the meatballs remain coated.
  7. Serve: Serve the hot honey meatballs over rice alongside your choice of vegetables. Enjoy this sweet and spicy dish while hot.

Notes

  • Ensure meatballs reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F for turkey, though they are cooked to 140°F here to finish cooking in sauce; you may want to check accordingly.
  • You can adjust the spice level by modifying the amount of sriracha in the sauce.
  • These meatballs freeze well before cooking; freeze in a sealed container and cook from frozen by increasing cooking time.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
