Ingredients

Blueberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups blueberries

Lemonade

  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 4 lemons)
  • 1 cup blueberry simple syrup
  • Ice, blueberries, and lemon slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, 1 cup of water, and 2 cups of blueberries. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 10 minutes without stirring. After simmering, remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup steep for 30 minutes to infuse the blueberry flavor thoroughly. Then strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a container to remove the solids. Let it cool for 30 minutes before refrigerating. The syrup keeps best if used within 3 weeks.
  2. Prepare the Lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine 6 cups of cold water with 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add 1 cup of the prepared blueberry simple syrup and stir well. Taste and adjust the sweetness by adding more syrup if desired. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate the lemonade until thoroughly chilled.
  3. Serve: When ready to serve, pour the chilled blueberry lemonade into glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with fresh blueberries and lemon slices for an attractive presentation and extra flavor.

Notes

  • The blueberry simple syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks for convenient use in future drinks or desserts.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the lemonade by adding more or less blueberry syrup according to your taste preference.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best bright and natural lemon flavor.
  • For a sparkling variation, replace some or all of the water with sparkling water or soda.
  • Blueberries can be substituted with other berries like raspberries or blackberries for a different fruity twist.
