Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 4 lbs chicken wings (fresh or frozen)

Sauce

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch

Garnish

  • ½ cup pineapple chunks (or to taste)
  • sliced scallions (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Thaw Wings: If using frozen wings, thaw them in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, minced garlic, ground ginger, soy sauce, pineapple juice, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside and refrigerate ¼ cup of the sauce for later use during broiling.
  3. Coat Wings: Place the wings in the slow cooker and pour the remaining sauce on top. Stir well to evenly coat all the wings with the sauce.
  4. Slow Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours or HIGH for 2.5–3 hours until the wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F and are tender.
  5. Broil Wings: Line a baking sheet with foil. Using tongs, carefully transfer the cooked wings to the baking sheet and brush them with the reserved sauce. Broil the wings for 1-2 minutes, then turn and broil for an additional 1-2 minutes until the wings start to caramelize and develop a glossy finish.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the wings with sliced scallions and garnish with pineapple chunks before serving for an added burst of flavor and color.

Notes

  • If using frozen wings, plan ahead to thaw them properly to ensure even cooking.
  • Broiling time may vary depending on your oven, so watch carefully to prevent burning.
  • Adjust the amount of pineapple chunks and scallions to your taste preference.
  • You can increase the ginger slightly if you prefer a bit more spice.
  • For extra crispiness, after broiling, you can return wings to a hot oven for a few minutes, but keep an eye on them.
