Ingredients

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 26 ounces frozen chicken tenders (e.g., Purdue Crispy Chicken Strips)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided)

Sliders

  • 2 packages King’s Hawaiian rolls (12 count each)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 24 ounces shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 34 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 6 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 ounce fresh basil
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken tenders: Using either an oven or air fryer, cook the frozen chicken tenders according to the package directions until crispy. The air fryer is preferred for extra crispiness but use your favored method.
  2. Prepare the rolls: Slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls horizontally with a large serrated knife, similar to cutting a bagel. Place the bottom halves in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish or rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Let chicken cool: Once cooked, allow the chicken tenders to cool for a few minutes to handle safely.
  4. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
  5. Season and cut chicken: Cut tenders into bite-sized pieces and toss them in a large bowl with half of the Italian seasoning to evenly coat.
  6. Spread marinara sauce: Spoon a heaping cup of marinara sauce onto both the cut sides of the bottom and top rolls.
  7. Assemble sliders: Layer sliced provolone cheese over the bottom buns, then add the seasoned chicken pieces. Spread some marinara sauce over the chicken as desired.
  8. Prepare basil: Stack basil leaves, roll them tightly, and slice into thin strips via a chiffonade cut. Sprinkle over the chicken layer.
  9. Add cheeses: Tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly over the chicken and basil, then sprinkle shredded Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Top and butter rolls: Place the top halves of the rolls over the assembled layers. Mix melted butter with the remaining Italian seasoning and brush this over the tops of the rolls.
  11. Bake covered: Cover the dish lightly with foil and bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese melts thoroughly.
  12. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes to allow the roll tops to turn golden brown and slightly crisp.
  13. Serve: Optionally provide extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping the sliders when serving.

Notes

  • Air fryer is optional but recommended for extra crispy chicken tenders.
  • Adjust the amount of marinara sauce based on your preference for sauciness.
  • Chiffonade cutting basil enhances both flavor and presentation.
  • Use a serrated knife to avoid squishing the soft Hawaiian rolls while slicing.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
