Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce or salsa
  • 1/2 cup black beans or corn (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 3 cups Fritos, Doritos, or tortilla chips, lightly crushed, divided
  • Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, jalapeños, green onions, avocado

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add garlic and taco seasoning. Stir in tomato sauce or salsa and optional beans or corn. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.
  4. Spread half of the crushed chips in the baking dish.
  5. Top with the beef mixture and sprinkle cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Scatter remaining crushed chips over the cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 15–20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Cool slightly, then top with desired fresh toppings before serving.

Notes

  • Use any type of chips—Fritos, Doritos, tortilla chips—for different flavors.
  • Prep the meat mixture ahead and assemble fresh for best texture.
  • Add fresh chips on top after baking if more crunch is desired.
  • Try with ground chicken or shredded rotisserie chicken as a variation.
  • Serve with extra chips on the side for scooping.
