Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 12 oz egg noodles (or rice, for serving)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for sautéing)
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Sauté onions until softened.
  3. Add garlic and mushrooms. Cook until mushrooms are browned and tender.
  4. Push vegetables to one side and add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  5. Stir everything together, then sprinkle with flour. Stir to coat.
  6. Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  7. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, until sauce thickens.
  8. Remove skillet from heat. Stir in sour cream until smooth and creamy.
  9. Spoon over cooked egg noodles and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add a splash of heavy cream for extra richness.
  • Swap in Greek yogurt for a high-protein alternative to sour cream.
  • Skip mushrooms if in a hurry, though they add great flavor and texture.
