Ingredients
12 oz smoked or fresh sausage (Italian, kielbasa, or chicken), sliced
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes or chili powder (optional)
1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
Salt and black pepper to taste
8 oz pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your choice)
1 cup reserved pasta water
Optional garnish: chopped parsley or grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain, reserving 1 cup pasta water.
Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage slices and cook until golden brown on both sides. Transfer sausage to a plate.
In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
Add honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and oregano. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy.
Return sausage to the skillet and stir in the cooked pasta. Toss to coat everything with the sticky sauce. Add reserved pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped parsley or grated Parmesan before serving.
Notes
Add spinach, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes in the last few minutes of cooking for more veggies.
Increase red pepper flakes or add sriracha for a spicy version.
Stir in cream or Greek yogurt at the end for a creamy twist.
Use rice or chickpea pasta to make it gluten‑free.
Prep pasta and sausage ahead—make sauce fresh when ready to serve for best results.
