Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium russet or Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter and cook ground beef with chopped onion and garlic until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Top with half the cooked beef mixture, then pour half the soup mixture over it.
  6. Repeat with remaining potatoes, beef, and soup mixture.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for 10–15 more minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let sit for 5–10 minutes before serving.
