Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough or 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Optional fillings: jam, chocolate spread, lemon curd, or pastry cream
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, glaze, or extra cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. Unroll dough and press seams together if using crescent dough. Keep dough cool but pliable.
  3. Brush surface with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture evenly.
  4. Add optional filling in a thin layer over the dough if desired.
  5. Roll dough tightly into a log, then slice lengthwise to expose layers.
  6. Twist each half into a spiral and roll into a muffin shape. Place in muffin tin.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Cool slightly, then roll in more cinnamon sugar or dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use cold dough and avoid over-handling for flakier results.
  • Store at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in oven at 300°F or briefly in microwave to restore texture.
  • Try savory variations with garlic butter and cheese.
  • Use parchment liners or nonstick pans to prevent sticking.
