Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced (about 2 medium apples)
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Swirl:
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • For the Topping:
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the melted butter and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix just until combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples. The batter will be thick.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar for the swirl. Set aside.
  7. Spoon half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter.
  8. Add the remaining batter and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  9. For the topping, combine the cubed butter, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Mix until crumbly and sprinkle over the bread.
  10. Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  11. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Try adding chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter for extra texture.
  • Substitute the apples with pears or diced peaches for a different twist.
  • Add a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk for extra sweetness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
