Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for swirl)
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted (for swirl)
  • Optional glaze: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1–2 tsp milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add milk and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Stir in dry ingredients until just combined—do not overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the swirl.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan and spread evenly. Drizzle half the swirl mixture over the batter. Repeat with remaining batter and swirl mixture. Gently marble with a knife.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. If using glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk and vanilla, then drizzle over the cooled loaf.

Notes

  • Use buttermilk for extra tenderness and slight tang.
  • Do not over-marble the swirl to prevent sinking.
  • Double the cinnamon swirl for extra richness if desired.
  • To toast slices, lightly butter and place in a skillet or toaster oven until golden.
