Ingredients

  • 4 day-old cinnamon rolls or slices of cinnamon swirl bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • Optional: 2 oz cream cheese (softened), maple syrup, icing from cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon.
  2. Dip cinnamon roll slices or bread into the egg mixture, soaking briefly on each side.
  3. Melt butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook slices until golden brown on both sides.
  4. If using whole rolls, press them slightly to flatten before dipping and cooking.
  5. Transfer cooked slices to a plate and keep warm.
  6. For glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk or combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk for a thicker topping.
  7. Drizzle warm French toast with glaze, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with syrup or fruit as desired.

Notes

  • Use cinnamon swirl brioche or challah for extra richness.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch.
  • Stir maple syrup into the glaze for more flavor.
  • Make a baked casserole version for a crowd.
  • Reheat leftovers in skillet or toaster oven for crisp edges.
