Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow or vanilla cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup toffee bits (like Heath or Skor)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or drizzle

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the dry cake mix with melted butter and stir until crumbly but starting to hold together.
  3. Press about two-thirds of the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. Sprinkle a generous layer of toffee bits evenly over the crust. Add nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
  5. Crumble the remaining cake mixture over the top to cover the filling.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and set.
  7. Cool completely, then cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Try adding shredded coconut for a tropical twist or swapping some toffee bits for butterscotch chips for added sweetness.
  • Drizzling melted chocolate over the cooled bars adds a decadent finish.
  • Sprinkling flaky sea salt on top before baking gives a great salty balance to the sweet bars.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. No reheating is needed, but you can microwave them for a gooey treat.
