Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley, splash of vinegar

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic, and sauté for 3–4 minutes until fragrant and softened.
  3. Stir in chopped cabbage, season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Cover skillet and let cabbage wilt for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Uncover and cook, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and lightly caramelized, about 5 more minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with parsley or a splash of vinegar for brightness.

Notes

  • Add diced tomatoes or tomato sauce for a stewed version.
  • Use ground turkey or sausage instead of beef for variation.
  • Serve over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes for a fuller meal.
  • Uncover toward the end to avoid mushy cabbage.
