Ingredients

  • 2 medium yellow or white onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or garlic powder (optional)
  • Olive oil spray or 1 tablespoon light olive oil

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the onions using a knife or mandoline.
  2. In a bowl, toss the onions with flour, cornstarch (if using), salt, pepper, and any seasonings until well coated.
  3. Lightly spray or drizzle the onions with olive oil and toss again to coat evenly.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Place onions in a thin layer in the basket (cook in batches if needed).
  6. Air fry for 8–12 minutes, shaking the basket every few minutes for even crisping.
  7. Remove once golden and crispy. Let cool to finish crisping.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for best results.
  • Red onions can be used for a sweeter flavor.
  • Add cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • Store in an airtight container once fully cooled to maintain crispness.
