Whip up creamy, garlicky pasta with just five simple ingredients. Butter, garlic, Parmesan, and pasta water create a quick, flavorful meal perfect for weeknights.
8 oz pasta (penne, spaghetti, fettuccine, or your choice)
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup reserved pasta water
Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
Sauté the Garlic
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
Make the Sauce
Pour in ½ cup of the reserved pasta water and stir. Reduce heat to low and add Parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
Toss the Pasta
Add drained pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Add more reserved pasta water as needed to reach your desired consistency. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve and Enjoy
Divide pasta into bowls. Garnish with extra Parmesan or chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot.
Use freshly grated Parmesan for the creamiest results.
Add red pepper flakes for a little heat.
Toss in steamed broccoli or spinach for a veggie boost.
To make it a meal, top with grilled chicken or shrimp.
Best served fresh, but leftovers can be reheated with a splash of water.
