Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (or fresh garlic, finely minced)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy), warmed
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet or grease a round pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder until evenly distributed.
  3. Stir in warm milk, yogurt (or sour cream), and olive oil until a soft dough forms. No kneading required.
  4. Scoop the dough into 8–10 equal portions, shaping them into balls and placing them close together on the prepared pan.
  5. Brush the tops generously with melted butter (or olive oil) and sprinkle Parmesan cheese evenly over each roll.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and set.
  7. Once out of the oven, brush with garlic-butter (melted butter mixed with minced garlic or garlic powder) and sprinkle with chopped parsley or chives.

Notes

  • For an herbal twist, add dried oregano or Italian seasoning to the dough.
  • Fold shredded mozzarella into the dough for cheesy goodness.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes before baking for a spicy kick.
  • Swap Parmesan for shredded cheddar or pepper jack for a different flavor.
  • Brush finished rolls with honey-garlic butter for a sweet-savory variation.
