If your family likes pineapples or apples, then an additional step is to chop about 1/2 cup of pineapple or (peeled) apple and sprinkle on top along with the pecans. You'll then place this back into the oven uncovered for about 10 minutes and then serve. The fruit adds another sweet flavor that makes this extra special (especially for a holiday meal).
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Wash the potatoes, poke a few holes in them with a fork. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes (until soft). When mushy, remove from oven and carefully peel (you may need to wait for them to cool a little!). Put the insides of the potatoes in a large mxing bowl.
Add the butter to the potatoes and using an electric mixer, blend until smooth. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, and slowly add the cream until well blended.
Place in a serving dish and sprinkle with pecans. Enjoy!
