Melt the butter and then mix with the sugar in a large bowl.
Beat in the eggs one at a time and stir well.
Add almond and vanilla extract, salt and flour and mix by hand until smooth.
Spread batter into greased 9" round cake pan or Springform Pan. Sprinkle chopped almonds on top and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Do not overbake -- less time is better.
