1 cup frozen fruit (blueberries, pear, plum or huckleberries are the best for diabetics)
1 fresh banana
4 cups unsweetened, plain almond milk (look for one that doesn't have carrageenan)
1 cup raw green leafy veggie (like spinach or kale)
4 tablespoons flax seeds (use seeds if your blender can grind the seeds, if not then use 1 tsp of cold-pressed flax oil)
2 teaspoons spirulina powder (this is optional to add in but highly recommended)
cold water as needed to make the consistency you prefer
Why would I add ALGAE (Spirulina) to my shake? Spirulina has anti-inflammatory properties, it provides readily available protein and carbohydrates for your body's immediate use, and it's known to "calm" the blood sugar by giving energy that endures for longer periods of time. I'd recommend starting off with small amounts in your breakfast shake and slowly increasing the amount you add as you get used to it's taste and smell.
Take all the ingredients (except water) and put into a blender. Blend until smooth.
Add water if needed to make the consistency you like to drink. Good Morning!
